What is the difference between Energy and Bandwidth?

Understand both resources so you can prepare before transferring.

Energy runs smart contracts

Calling a smart contract on TRON consumes Energy. A TRC20-USDT transfer is a contract call. Its resource consumption depends on the execution path, address state and network parameters. An ordinary TRX transfer normally does not use Energy.

Bandwidth covers transaction data

Transactions also consume Bandwidth, including ordinary TRX transfers and contract calls. The serialized transaction size and signatures affect usage. Having enough Energy does not mean you also have enough Bandwidth.

Resource shortages can cost TRX

When Energy or Bandwidth is insufficient, the network may burn TRX to cover fees. An insufficient balance or fee limit can also cause failure. Renting Energy does not mean every transaction fee becomes zero.

What to check before transferring

Verify the recipient, token balance, available Energy and Bandwidth. A resource lookup is a snapshot; concurrent transactions can change it. Confirm completion using the successful on-chain receipt.
